October 2005 Annual General Meeting - 2007 Show Named as 'Hello Dolly'

The annual general meeting held on the 13th October 2005 revealed the 2007 show as 'Hello Dolly'. Hello, Dolly! is the story of Mrs. Levi's efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-millionaire, so that she can send his money circulating like rainwater, t not her late husband Ephraim Levi taught her. Along the way she also succeeds in that matching the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder's head clerk, Cornelius Hackl; Cornelius's assistant Barnaby Tucker with Mrs. Molloy's loop assistant, Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist Ambrose Kemper with Mr. Vandergelder's weeping niece, Ermengarde. Mrs. Levi tracks Vandergelder to his hay and feed store in Yonkers, then by train back to Mrs. Molloy's hat shop in New York, out into the streets of the city where they are all caught up in the great 14th Street Association Parade, and then to the most evident and expensive restaurant in town, the Harmonia Gardens, where Dolly is greeted by the waiters, cooks, doormen and wine stewards in one of the most famous songs in the history of American musical comedy, "Hello, Dolly!"

What happens in the end? Dolly gets her man, of course. And he is delighted she caught him. Dolly leaves the stage at the end of Act II with a wink to the audience as she takes a meat peep into Vandergelder's bulging cash register and promises that his fortune will soon be put to good use. She quotes her late husband Ephraim, " Money, pardon the expression, is like manure, it's not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow."

March 2004 - 'Kiss Me Kate! - Kiss That Nigel!' (Lytham St Annes Express)

That’s the message star of St. Annes Operatic’s newest production said when she found out who her leading man was! Joan Aitchinson is set to make a welcome return to the Lowther stage in the groups latest production ‘Kiss Me Kate’ to be staged this summer in which Joan takes the title role. Playing opposite Joan is Nigel Taylor fresh from his performance in the Tower Circus Christmas Pantomime, ‘Pinocchio’. Joan and Nigel are no strangers to playing these to parts together as they have played both Kate and Fred no less than two previous times TOGETHER.

Nigel explains, ‘I was thrilled to be given the part of Fred which I enjoy so much, especially as I am playing opposite Joan, the only problem is on the last two occasions Joan has had me in hospital and out cold on the floor’

Joan maintains that these were all accidents explaining ‘On the first occasion we were practicing a fight scene. It is usually very choreographed but Nigel forgot to move his leg and I kicked his shin bone – live on stage. However, Nigel remained professional throughout and carried on with the show – I only realised it was more serious after the show when he was rush to hospital for an x-ray. Thankfully it was just badly bruised.’

In a separate incident Joan also knocked Nigel out cold by mistake – thankfully that was during a rehearsal.

Company spokesman, Peter Taylor said ‘We are all thrilled to have Joan and Nigel working with us and a whole host of other excellent singers, dancers and actors. The standard this year is truly professional and we look forward to our performance. Of course we’ve still got a lot of hard work to do before then!’
